On the package of Baobest BaoBites superfruit snacks ($9.99 for 5.5 ounces, Baobabfoods.com), it warns that they’re “deliciously addictive,” and the Triathlete staff can attest to that. These small fruit cubes, available in pomegranate, peach mango, and blood orange flavors, are made with real fruit concentrate and organic baobab fruit powder with a sweet (but not too sweet) flavor. We liked them straight out of the bag, but they’re also great baked into muffins, sprinkled on oatmeal, or added to trail mix. Baobab is a fruit packed with fiber, antioxidants, vitamin C, and potassium, making these chews a convenient way to eat some phytonutrients in the winter months.

We’re always looking for ways to sneak nutrients into things we eat almost every day, so naturally, we took an interest in baobab fruit powder.

Baobab is a tree native mostly to southern Africa. The pulp inside of the tree’s fruit dehydrates naturally and can effortlessly be ground into powder. It’s very healthy—a two-tablespoon serving of Baobab Fruit Powder contains 6g of dietary fiber, 272mg of potassium, loads of Vitamin C, 35 calories, and 9 grams of carbohydrate. Plus, it has more antioxidants than acai or blueberries.

The true benefit of this fruit powder, though, is its remarkable versatility. We tried it in yogurt, oatmeal, smoothies, and even put ½ serving in a glass of water. (also recommended adding it to baked goods, juices, and sauces, though we didn’t try that.) The added taste is noticeable in some mixtures and is completely hidden in others, but never was it so invasive that it ruined the experience of food or drink you normally like. The taste is slightly tangy but not very strong, even if the nutrients are plentiful.

Watch out acai and goji berries, there’s a new superfruit in town that hails from somewhere other than China or South America. In fact, this rare breed boasts an unparalleled nutritional profile and known as the “Queen of Superfruits.”

Introducing, Baobab, an African wild-harvested fruit that is bursting with essential minerals and nutrients. What makes baobab the most super superfruit of them all? Well first, baobab provides consumers a natural way to achieve healthy, glowing skin since it is packed with both antioxidants and vitamin C. More importantly, the delicious, light, and subtly tangy flavor of this superfruit blends perfectly with other fruity tastes, making it easy to squeeze in your daily dose since it works as an addition to your morning yogurt or afternoon smoothie.

The NEW YOU team was lucky enough to have the chance to try out some of the baobab products from the brand Baobab Foods, the leading supplier and manufacturer of baobab superfood products. But it doesn’t end there. Apart from being one of the most nutritious foods on earth, baobab provides several beauty benefits too. This exotic species promotes collagen production because of its high levels of vitamin C, so say good-bye to your wrinkles and fine lines and hello to a healthy glowing skin! Baobab also reduces the visible signs of aging due to its powerful polyphenol content and antioxidant levels, so you can bet your skin’s elasticity will be stronger and smoother than ever before.

Baobab poised to become the “queen of superfruits,” supplier says

By Elizabeth Crawford, 18-Aug-2015

Antioxidant- and fiber-rich baobab is on the verge of stealing the crown from acai, goji berries and pomegranate as the “queen of superfruits,” thanks to awareness raised by recent and upcoming product launches featuring the ingredient, according to a key ingredient supplier.

Baobab

Sales of the fruit of the African baobab tree increased a remarkable 208% from all-natural sales channels, including grocery and specialty/gourmet, from June 2014 to July 2015. “I have noticed the inclusion of baobab in superfruit-positioned fruit chews, supplement powders, and functional beverages,” SPINS’ Kawa says.

Baobab is thriving in the supplements segment as well, increasing a full 267% over the past year. Baobab is not yet a household name in the United States, but it has garnered some respectable media attention for its high concentrations of vitamin C, fiber, and antioxidants, and its ease of processing thanks to the fruit’s low moisture content.

Baobab: The 2015 Superfruit for Beautiful Skin

Were you aware that there is a superfruit that’s stealing the crown from acai, goji berries and pomegranates this year? Foods rich in vitamin C and antioxidants are essential for those seeking healthy, glowing skin. Baobab, known as the “Queen of Superfruits” is an African wild-harvested fruit that is naturally bursting with essential minerals and nutrients, as well as both antioxidants and vitamin c.

Baobab is the hot new superfood for those seeking a natural, simple way to achieve glowing skin with some added health benefits as well!

In case you’re unfamiliar, baobab is harvested from the African baobab tree. The pulp dries naturally inside pods on the tree and once harvested, the pulp is milled into powder, sieved and packaged – with absolutely nothing added! Baobab is available to consumers in raw fruit powder and BaoBites—bite-size fruit morsels that are made with the fruit powder, real fruit concentrates and pectin, and are perfect for adding some zing to snacking, baking, trail mixes and more. The superfruit has a light and subtly tangy flavor that blends perfectly with other fruit flavors, making it a nutrient-rich addition to yogurt, smoothies, oatmeal, sports drinks… The options are endless!

Baobab boasts an unparalleled nutritional profile, making it one of the most nutritious foods on earth and providing a delicious way to get beautiful skin from the inside out.

Beauty benefits include:

Promotes collagen production : high levels of vitamin c protect cells from oxidative stress and contribute to the formation of collagen and the regeneration of vitamin e, which protects and repairs the skin while reducing wrinkles and fine lines and providing a healthy glow.

Reduce the visible signs of aging : high polyphenol content and antioxidant levels (the highest of any fruit) help neutralize free radicals, naturally detoxifying and aiding in the prevention premature aging by retaining skin’s elasticity – keeping it strong and smooth.

I received a sample of the Baobab Fruit Powder to review.

Baobab’s tangy flavor tastes great in most in everything! The natural properties of our southern African Baobab are unique. This Baobab delivers 6 times the antioxidants found in baobab from other parts of the world. Baobab supports a healthy immune system and lowers inflammation throughout the body with its unique mix of fiber and antioxidants. Baobab Fruit Powder consists of more than 50% fiber by weight. The majority of this fiber is of the highly beneficial soluble variety.

My thoughts: I am really loving this product! So far, I have been enjoying it in my bottled water. I just add up to two Tbsps. and shake it up really good. Sometimes I freeze my water just enough to make it slushy and it is amazing! It is tangy and I think it tastes amazing. I feel like it is giving my skin a beautiful glow, and I have noticed that my energy levels have skyrocketed.

My well-being has really improved as well. I feel wonderful and healthy. The only thing I have been doing differently is drinking this Baobab mixture every day. I love it!
