Baobab Foods LLC is one of those rare companies that is fully involved at every step of the entire supply chain. Our certified organic baobab supply chains are a great example:
- We worked with an organic certifier to first have specific areas rich in Baobab trees approved as organic.
- We now buy Baobab Fruit directly from our local partners in several regions who are harvesting Baobab from those organically certified areas. Every bag is labeled with lot numbers so we track it back to its origin.
- We transport the Baobab Fruit overland to our production facility in South Africa where we process and test for quality, before exporting to the US.
- In the US we both distribute our Baobab Fruit Powder to food and beverage brands in the US, as well as incorporate it in our Baobab Superfruit Snacks for sale to the same markets.
As a result, we know exactly where each bag of Baobab Fruit Powder comes from as it is shipped throughout the world. Why is this important? One word. Traceability.
Traceability forms the foundation of our quality control processes. We test when we receive a shipment in South Africa, we test after processing and we test just before exporting. Any Baobab Powder that is below specifications when tested at any stage is immediately quarantined. But because we are able to track that lot number back to a specific caption area, we are able to investigate the reason for the red flag.
Traceability protects our customers from any risk. And it helps us to monitor and improve the quality of our supply chains. It gives us the ability to quickly identify where the poor quality raw material came from. We can then work with our local partners to help them improve their quality for the following season.
We are proud to say that we are a “Source to Finished Product” company.
